Everyone knows that G.H. Green was one of the preeminent xylophonists of the "Golden Age of Xylophone". This text is perfect for the younger student or beginner.
First published in 1936. Green's own descriptions of this method states it is: "Systematically arranged in progressive form and interspersed with original melodies throughout to develop sight-reading, accuracy, perfect tempo and a fundamental knowledge of the instrument."

The Green Brothers published this Advanced Instructor back in 1922. Its 87 pages includes photos and information that any percussionist will find helpful. There are exercises and etudes in several chapters: The Roll, Scales, Exercises in various time signatures and keys, Ornaments and Grace Notes, Arpeggios and Broken Chords, and several more.

From 1919! – The Home Study Course in Vibracussion was published through the National School of Vibracussion in Chicago, IL. This course consists of twelve (12) lessons along with an Introduction and a “Special Lesson on Four Mallet Playing” and a section on “Harmony Ragtime” that predates other sources.
This is truly an amazing document of xylophone history and one that is sure to provide a great deal of information and pedagogy from the early part of the 20th Century. In total, the 149 pages of this resource is something you likely haven’t seen before!

Otto Seele was a percussionist and timpanist with the Theater and Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. The “Schule für Xylophon” is a “self instructor” for this instrument. His groundbreaking timpani method is also available in the VAPMedia Digital Library. The text for this book is in both German and English and contains exercises, melodies, and “easy pieces”. There is also a short section on four mallet playing and the vibraphone.
This book will make a wonderful addition to your historic pedagogy collection as well as a great resource for the history of the instrument. It is also perfect for sight reading or beginning players.
