This video series is designed as an academic course that both drum set players and those who are not as familiar with the instrument will find informative and entertaining. The course is separated into twelve sections, following the chronologic development of the instrument from its inception to present day. The course is conceived as a pedagogical tool for the instructor as well as an educational resource for the student and performer.

Robert Breithaupt Bio
Robert Breithaupt enjoys one of America's most diverse musical careers, is considered one of the world’s leaders in percussion education and is Professor Emeritus at Capital University, where he developed one of the most recognized undergraduate percussion programs in the United States.
He travels internationally as an author and clinician and serves as an artist/endorser for Yamaha, Sabian, Ltd., Remo, Inc., and Innovative Percussion. Breithaupt is a contributor to numerous publications, is the author of the text, The Complete Percussionist, featured in the video Snare Drum Basics, and has founded the website, Percussion Portal, and has served as contributor or co-author to a variety of other publications.
A veteran of over 40 years of concerts and tours, he has performed and toured in diverse solo, group, and orchestral settings, having appeared with countless jazz and Broadway artists and as drummer and percussionist with over 100 symphony orchestras. Since 1980, Breithaupt has been the drummer with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, the nation’s oldest not-for-profit jazz orchestra.
His leadership experiences include leading one of America’s top non-for-profit jazz organizations, the Jazz Arts Group (JAG), as Executive Director. He is the president of the music contracting firm RBMusic, Inc., and was co-founder of Columbus Pro Percussion, Inc., serving as vice-president for twenty-five years.
The recipient of numerous honors and awards, Breithaupt is Past-President of the Percussive Arts Society, Vice-President of the Jazz Education Network, and has received the Yamaha Legacy Award and Bowling Green State University’s Outstanding Graduate Award.
