GORDON STOUT Music for Solo Marimba
Gordon Stout's groundbreaking debut album, Music for Solo Marimba, recorded in 1977, established the gold standard for both marimba performance excellence and recording quality. This historically significant recording holds a unique place in percussion literature for several remarkable reasons.
The album was recorded on the legendary King George Marimba, the personal instrument of marimba pioneer Clair Omar Musser himself. Adding to the recording's historical importance, Musser remained present throughout the entire recording session, lending his expertise and blessing to this landmark project.
Music for Solo Marimba features the premiere recording of "Two Mexican Dances," marking the first time this significant work was captured on disc. The combination of Stout's masterful artistry, the exceptional instrument, and the presence of marimba's founding father created a recording that continues to inspire performers and set benchmarks for musical and technical excellence in the field.
