TOUCH is a collection of rhythmic and musical reductions of passages from complete orchestral works. The rhythms, dynamics, articulations, phrase markings, expression markings, and even beam groupings are exactly as they appear in the score.

Play the etudes along with the embedded audio files. As you perform the etudes, listen closely and model what you hear in the orchestra. At times, you’ll be playing along with the strings, the woodwinds, or the brass; solo parts, section parts, or full tutti passages. You’ll be playing along with melodies, counter-melodies, and other prominent voices. Interpretation of rhythmic timing, dynamics, articulations, phrasing, tonal color, rolls (density, hand speed, or particular technique used), and more, are all free for experimentation and examination. Determine how you might best be able to emulate all of the musicality you hear in the recordings.

When you purchase TOUCH, you’ll immediately be invited to set up a password to gain access to the special TOUCH webpage on the VAP Media website. This page contains TOUCH in two forms: a downloadable .pdf file and a series of online videos for each etude. Your purchase entitles you to both editions of the book. You’ll find that each version has its own advantages. For example, you can add own markings to your downloaded .pdf Edition. The Online Video Edition has scrolling images of the etude, thus avoiding page turns. Having both editions greatly increases how you can interact with the etudes.
