Peinkofer & Tannigel - Handbook of Percussion Instruments
Karl Peinkofer and Fritz Tannigel wrote their Handbook of Percussion Instruments in 1969. At that time, the book was described as being 20 years ahead of its time. In 1976, the Handbook was translated into English by Kurt and Else Stone. The book was still 20 years ahead of its time! Even today, this book is like no other and still holds its own as a breakthrough source of percussion information.
The Handbook contains an extensive English- German- Italian- French Dictionary of Percussion Terms; photos and descriptions of mallets, sticks, and beaters; photos and descriptions of hundreds of common and esoteric instruments; and over 80 pages of musical score examples of some of the most influential compositions of the 20th-century. This book is a treasure chest of knowledge about how composers score for percussion and what the happens when composers push the envelope of composition and orchestration.
The book has been out of print for far too long and VAP Media is proud to be the USA Distributor of the Digital Edition, Like all of VAP Media's Digital Library offerings, the book was scanned at high resolution, straightened, cleaned up, and passed through state-of-the-art optical character reading software so that the text is searchable!
