William Cahn - Creative Music Making
William Cahn's outstanding book, Creative Music Making, is an interactive process in which musicians and music teachers of any age, student or professional, performing on any instrument can deepen their musicianship and expand individual expression through the creation of spontaneous, free-form music without the constraints of thinking about technique or watching printed music. The music created is to be recorded (by the players) live and then discussed in a non-judgmental round-table. The author guides readers through the four simple steps of the Creative Music Making process. The process helps musicians to gain a deeper knowledge of their instruments, a deeper level of listening - to themselves and to other ensemble members, an intuitive sense in making appropriate musical responses, an increased ability to embrace the sounds produced by others, and an increased confidence in musical expression and risk taking.
In addition to performing with major orchestras under renowned conductors all over the world, Grammy recipient Bill Cahn continues to perform with NEXUS, the Toronto-based percussion quartet which is dedicated to a genre of music that is unfamiliar to most listeners, but which forms a significant worldwide musical niche – music for percussion ensemble.
